Channel Bridgerton and spend your last night of 2022 on the sought-after Royal Crescent, Bath’s most famous – and best looking – street. The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa occupies one of the grand Georgian houses and offers the sort of period drama style that we could only dream of emulating in our own homes. This year, their New Year’s Eve package includes a Festive Afternoon Tea in the Drawing room before you head up to your room to ‘re-powder’. Then it’s back down the grand staircase for a Champagne and canapes reception, followed by a spectacular five-course black tie dinner prepared by Head Chef David Campbell. Welcome in the new year with a glass of Champagne to the tune of live music and a traditional piper. You’ll also have full use of the spa the next day to help you kick that sore head.

The Talbot, Yorkshire

We love a cosy coaching inn, and The Talbot in the Yorkshire market town of Malton has transformed its 17th century space into a relaxing hot pot of open fires, local fare and chintzy interiors mixed with bold, contemporary colours. Settle in the snug drawing room with a pint from the local brewery, or experience Malton’s foodie revolution in the restaurant where the chefs fly the banner for North Yorkshire produce. The hotel is currently offering one or two night packages over the New Year, with a celebration on the big night that includes a six-course meal, live music and a black tie disco set to carry on into the early hours of 2023.

Llandudno was recently named one of the world’s top emerging destinations, so why not start the new year there with a stay at Bodysgallen Hall hotel. On the slopes of Pydew mountain, with views across Conwy Castle and the Snowdonia mountains, this 17th-century mansion really comes into its own during the festive season, lighting up its parkland and decking out its centuries-old interiors with tasteful decorations. If you really want to style things out, then just 20-minutes from Euston by train, the sprawling Grove hotel is a winter wonderland of velvet-clad lounges, illuminated manicured gardens, an extensive spa and a team of staff who really know how to bring the party atmosphere to guests. A New Year’s break Eve here includes a two night stay and an eight or nine-course dinner ahead of a private firework display at midnight with a traditional Scottish piper. There’s a live DJ set in the main hotel lobby until 1am and the choice of breakfast in bed, The Glasshouse or The Stables restaurant the next day. There will also be a live harpist playing from 1pm to 5pm on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in the lounges, and guests get complimentary use of the spa.

If there’s one place in the UK that really knows how to ring in the new year in style, it’s Edinburgh. The historical city is known for its bold, exuberant celebrations of Hogmanay and always ensures the year ends with a bang – a big one. And if there’s one hotel in particular that go all out as part of this, it’s The Dunstane Houses. There aren’t many places more magical than the Cotswolds at Christmas. Think chocolate box villages, country walks and cosy pubs with roaring fires. And if it’s a country house hotel you’re craving, there is still availability to book a New Year’s Eve stay at Calcot & Spa. Expect fine food, champagne and excellent wines – and this three-night New Year’s Eve break comes with everything included. Afternoon tea is served on arrival in front of a crackling log fire and a relaxed dinner in The Conservatory. The New Year’s Eve festivities start at 7.30pm with a champagne reception followed by dinner in The Barn, then it’s downstairs to the dance floor to throw some shapes. More champagne will be served on the stroke of midnight and there is a casino for fun, so no money is needed. On New Year’s Day have breakfast in bed, visit the spa, curl up with a good book in the lounge or go for a long country walk. Another dinner in The Conservatory rounds off the stay.

If a trip to the capital is on the cards, one of the best New Year’s Eve hotels in the UK to check into is The Ned. Being a members club owned by the Soho House group, this place is buzzy all year round, but especially so during the festive season. Expect festive blooms, live entertainment and one of the biggest Christmas trees in town. Arrive on New Year’s Eve and you’ll get two tickets to the black tie blowout party on the ground floor (this year’s theme is Midnight in Paris), plus breakfast in the morning morning. Or you can carry on the New Year celebrations and check in on January 1 for a Feast, overnight stay and breakfast in the morning.

The rooftop at Manchester’s King Street Townhouse is legendary for its views across the city and that famous infinity pool – and on New Year’s Eve it will become the scene of a Black Tie Party that promises to be an unforgettable night of indulgence. Even the Great Gatsby himself will be calling for an invite. Guests will be welcomed with champagne and canapes before being served a three-course dinner accompanied by live music from an acoustic band. After dinner, The Bentley Brothers will take to the stage for a sophisticated rock and pop set to get the party started as you ring in the New Year. The Idle Rocks, Cornwall

If you fancy spending New Year’s Eve by the sea check into The Idle Rocks, a luxury hotel on the Roseland Peninsula in the heart of Cornwall. There’s a minimum 4-night stay from Thursday December 30 to Monday January 3, but you get a lot for your money. Their two-night New Year’s Eve House Party package includes a champagne afternoon tea on arrival and a pampering session at their award-winning spa.
