Hithe means a landing space for small boats, so it’s fitting this secret London restaurant is hidden along the Thames with views of the water you’ve probably not seen before.

Seek is the second part of its name, and we have to admit, although we knew it was in The Westin London City Hotel a short walk from Mansion House tube station, it took a bit of finding as no one was on the hotel reception when we arrived and it wasn’t obviously signposted that the restaurant was upstairs.

Once we’d established that (you take the lift to the third floor which can be found to the right of the lobby), we discovered Hithe + Seek is a hidden gem of a restaurant that is perfect for date nights or cocktails with a view.

Though we’re sure it looks great in the daytime with its unobstructed views of the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, visit at night when it’s dimly-lit and moody and book a sofa table at the front overlooking the water, which almost reminded us of cinema seating, for the best views.

We visit to try a special supper club six-course tasting menu in partnership with Dalston Wine Club founder, Hannah Crosbie. And what Hannah doesn’t know about drinks isn’t worth knowing. Each course was perfectly paired, from her signature Dalston Clover Club cocktail aperitif to the Italian dessert wine that ended the meal.

Alongside Hithe + Seek Head Chef Fabio De Paolis, the pair created aphrodisiac-inspired dishes to celebrate all things romance, with playful names like The Catfish (mushrooms masquerading as mushrooms) and The Booty Call (a late night dish of lamb shish, mint tzatziki and padron peppers). But the pièce de résistance of the meal was the chocolate sphere you had to smash to get to the delicious chilli and mango mousse inside, named My Ex.

Though the supper club menu, costing £99pp including drinks pairing, has finished at the time of writing, there is much to like about Hithe + Seek, which is worth a visit even just for a drink and glimpse at those impressive views. It’s perfectly placed for dates as it’s not that busy, being a hotel bar. And more importantly, not that many people know about it yet.

They often run events, such as DJ nights and supper clubs, so it’s worth checking out their What’s Happening page. Hithe + Seek also serve afternoon tea from 1pm to 5pm daily from a reasonable for London £45pp. As well as cocktails and their selection of old and new wines, you’ll find treats like Braised Mangalitza Pork Belly (£14), Ravioli Carbonara (£13), Cajun-spiced Prawn ‘Cocktail’ (£19) and Tuna Tartare Tacos (£18) on the menu.

Best for: Date nights, dinner with a view, secret spot for cocktails

Hithe + Seek is at The Westin London City hotel at 60 Upper Thames Street and is open 1pm to midnight Tuesday to Saturday and 1pm to 5pm Sundays and Mondays
