New UK Hotel Openings for 2023
The Hoxton, Shepherd’s bush, London – just open

One of our favourite hotels, The Hoxton, already has establishments in Holborn, Shoreditch and Southwark – but now it’s added Shepherd’s Bush in west London to its portfolio. Like the other Hoxton’s (they are also in Paris, Amsterdam, New York and more), expect comfy but stylish 70s-inspired interiors everywhere you look, from the lobby and wraparound bar to Chet’s, their Thai-Americana restaurant. The 237 bedrooms, some overlooking the green, range from Snug to Roomy and come with feature headboards and rainfall showers. Although Shepherd’s Bush isn’t known as a tourist spot, it’s undergone a regeneration in recent years, is within walking distance of Notting Hill and incredibly well connected to central London.
Rooms start from £174 a night

art’otel, Battersea Power Station, London – open now

art’otel, owned by the Radisson hotel group, is already in Amsterdam and Berlin, but now it’s opened its first UK hotel in the iconic Battersea Power Station building. Fusing art, design and hospitality, the grand opening is in February, but guests can book one of the 164 playful rooms and suites as part of the soft launch now. The TOZI Grand Cafe on the ground floor is also open now, but JOIA, their skyline restaurant and bar on the 16th floor with a rooftop swimming pool offering views across the famous power station chimneys will open next month. There is also an Art Gallery, gym and treatment rooms. Now the new Battersea Power Station tube station has opened on the Northern Line, this part of town is easier to get to than ever and is much better connected to the rest of London. A new shopping centre, restaurants and bars have also opened nearby. Another hotel in Hoxton, east London, has been earmarked to open in 2024.

Boys Hall, Ashford, Kent – rooms just opened

Boys Hall is a 17th Century manor house where Charles I and Samuel Pepys are once rumoured to have stayed. Now, after being lovingly restored by current owners Kristie and Brad Lomas, it has a new life as a rural retreat in the heart of the Kent countryside. Set on three acres of land, there is a pub and restaurant which opened last summer, but their 10 boutique rooms are brand new for 2023. Seven are available to book now. A further three will open later this year. Each has its own character and is named after someone or something from the house itself or local area. Our favourites are Ernest (pictured), Margaret and Romney that feature with roll-top baths in the room. Even if you’re not staying over, book a table in the restaurant. A two-course lunch is a reasonable £25 or stop by for one of their epic Sunday roasts.
Rooms start from £160 a night
