Idris Elba is already an acclaimed actor, producer and DJ – now he’s adding London wine bar owner to his long list of achievements.
The Luther star has opened Porte Noire in King’s Cross, which serves more than 800 wines and boasts one of the largest tasting rooms in the capital.
As well as a 70-cover dining room, bar and outdoor terrace, there is also a wine shop for oenophiles who are just passing through.
Located in the newly revamped Coal Drop’s Yard area, Porte Noire Wine Cellar & Bar is the latest venture from Idris and his business partner David Farber, founder of Connaught Wine Cellars.
It follows on from the success of the duo’s wine and champagne brand, also called Porte Noire, which launched in 2018.
Those visiting the London bar can expect a range of wines, from rare and vintage bottles to wine on tap. Most are available to buy in the shop or online.
In addition to its impressive wine selection, Porte Noire serves premium spirit cocktails. Try the signature Porte Noire Flower, made with vodka, apricot liqueur, champagne and wild hibiscus syrup.
The food menu features a selection of French style small plates, such as Ouef Meurette (poached eggs in red wine), slow cooked beef cheeks and gin-cured salmon tartare.
High-end cheese and charcuterie boards, and snacks like truffle fries with pecorino, are also available to order.
While the day-to-day running of the bar will be David’s domain, Idris has hinted he will be popping in from time to time, so there’s a chance to spot him during your visit.
He told Metro: ‘I’ve been away a lot for work lately… but now I’m home, so you’ll definitely see me down there, chilling in a corner somewhere.’
